1. Le Rocher des Deux Trous & Glanum (The classic route)

This is the iconic route to take when staying in Saint-Rémy. From the Glanum Archaeological Site (a few minutes from the campground), you will climb up to the ridges. The elevation gain is significant, but the reward is well worth it: the famous Rocher des Deux Trous, immortalized by Van Gogh, and a bird’s-eye view of Mont Ventoux.

  • Pegomas tip: Set off early in the morning when it’s cool, and spend the afternoon relaxing by our pool.
  • Departure: Parking lot at the Glanum archaeological site.
  • Technical details: 16 km (full loop) | Elevation gain +450m | Difficult.

2. Le Lac du Peiroou (The Zen Walk)

Ideal for a warm-up on the day of your arrival or for a post-lunch stroll. This artificial lake, nestled in the hollow of limestone cliffs, offers a picture-postcard setting. It is a peaceful place, much loved by locals for picnics in the shade of tall pine trees.

  • Departure: Possible on foot from the centre or small car park on site.
  • Technical details: 3 km | Little elevation gain | Easy.

🥾 Explorations: Less than 15 minutes away by car

The heart of the Alpilles is yours to explore with these itineraries located in neighbouring villages.

3. Les Baux-de-Provence : Le Val d’Enfer

Leave the crowds of the castle’s narrow streets behind for a walk. This loop takes you beneath the cliffs, into the mysterious Val d’Enfer, known for its twisted rocks (bauxite). You will pass by the Pavillon de la Reine Jeanne, a Renaissance gem lost in nature.

  • Tip: Combine this walk with a visit to the monumental Carrières de Lumières for a full day out.
  • Departure: Car park below the Carrières (D27).
  • Technical details: 10 km | Elevation gain +240m | Moderate (3 hours).

4. Eygalières : The Calans Trail

Head east of the Alpilles towards the very chic village of Eygalières. This trail has a Provençal western feel to it. You will walk along the Gros Calan with a breathtaking view of the hilltop village. It is a wild route where the white rock contrasts with the azure blue sky.

  • Departure: School car park, Eygalières.
  • Technical details: 10 to 12 km | Elevation gain +350m | Moderate to strenuous.

5. Fontvieille : In the footsteps of Alphonse Daudet

A short, flat loop steeped in history, perfect for families. You will walk among windmills, including the famous Moulin Ribet, and discover the remains of Roman aqueducts. For more history, feel free to visit the Fontvieille Tourist Office.

  • Départ : Office de tourisme de Fontvieille.
  • Fiche technique : 2,3 km | Plat | Très facile (1h).

⛰️ Les Défis Sportifs & Panoramas

For those who want to get a bird’s eye view and earn their aperitif at the campsite bar.

6. La Tour des Opies :The Roof of the Alpilles

Want to touch the sky? Les Opies is the highest point in the massif (498m). The final climb to the watchtower is technical and requires a bit of hand-to-foot work, but the 360° view (Camargue, Alps, Luberon) is unforgettable.

  • Departure: Eyguières (arena car park).
  • Technical details: 13.5 km | Elevation gain +400m | Difficult.

7. Mouriès : Les Caisses de Jean-Jean

Mouriès is the capital of olive oil, but also a major archaeological site. This trail follows an old railway line (flat and pleasant) before climbing up to the oppidum. Look up: the cliffs are often home to eagle owls.

  • Departure: Caisses de Jean-Jean car park (D17).
  • Technical details: 7 km (short loop) or 19 km (long loop) | Moderate.

8. Orgon : Notre Dame de Beauregard & Valdition

If you drive to the eastern end of the massif (about 20 minutes away), Orgon offers a different view of the Alpilles. The climb to Notre-Dame de Beauregard offers spectacular views of the Durance valley. You can also explore the Valdition wine estate.

  • Note: This is where another Pausado campsite is located, La Vallée Heureuse.
  • Technical details: Varies depending on route | Moderate.
